Multi-Pass Cutting With the CraftROBO

The Pepakura Viewer for CraftROBO has a feature that allows you to choose the types of lines you want to cut, and the style in which to cut them. There are 2 basic line types:

>Cut Lines: The CraftROBO cuts these lines.

>Fold Lines: The CraftROBO perforates these lines by default.

You can choose the spacing of the perforations as described in the Viewer's help files, which recommend an 0.5mm/0.5mm spacing. Personally, I prefer that fold lines be scored, because models tend to look cleaner with scored fold lines rather than perforated fold lines. Version 3 introduced the ability to perform a separate cutting pass for cut and fold lines, which allows you to cut, score, or perforate as needed.

The process I use is as follows:

The first pass should always be the Mountain Folds. In this pass, we're scoring the fold lines. Tick the little box that says "Cut as solid line (Ignore CraftROBO Setting)" first. Mount the blue cap and choose a relatively low thickness around the 10-12 mark. If you're cutting completely through the paper at this setting, turn down the thickness or use a thicker paper.

The second pass should be for Cut Lines and Valley Folds only. Untick the "Cut as solid line (Ignore CraftROBO Setting)" box to enable perforation, mount the yellow or red cap (depending on the thickness of the stock you're using), and choose the appropriate thickness setting for cutting completely through the stock.

In the second pass, the CraftROBO will cut completely through the cut lines, and the valley folds will be perforated. Valley folds should always be perforated, since perforated fold lines are bidirectional and can be folded in either direction, while scored fold lines can only fold in one direction.

To save time, process all of the pages in the PDO file one step at a time--score all of the pages, then cut all of the pages.
